Repeats

My Stripe Repeat
The stripe repeat is the first repeat we learnt how to do. It is the easiest of the repeats. We simply draw a few rectangles, fill them with colour, merge the layers, and then use the control+alt+click command to drag the blocks across so they effectively repeat. However this was the long way o doing it. Alternatively and more efficiently, we can select a block of our stripe, start a new document, edit+fill+pattern, select pattern, click OK, and it will do it for us!

My Symmetrical Repeat
Next we learnt the symmetrical repeat, which was slightly harder. This involves filling a background with colour, selecting an interesting brush and working with flip/rotation transformations to make it more complex. As each new layer is added, we merge it to the previous one so the pattern will grow symmetrically. Once happy with the design, we play around with layer effects for more interest. Finally, select the repeat (after you find it!) or a couple of options, and fill a new document with it.
