WEEK 2: Pants and Shorts

This week we began trade sketching pants and shorts. I feel I did really well considering my lack of experience and practise! The jewel detail on the shorts took me a really long time, as did the elasticised bands on the pants. We also learnt how to join points:

JOINING POINTS
·      Highlight
·      Object, transform
·      Reflect vertical
·      Copy
·      Use arrow keys to move them into place
·      Direct select (second arrow), select over the two end points/join of the reflections
·      Object, path, average
·      Both (or vertical?)
·      Object, path, join
·      Avoid making a point in the middle by going too high in the centre line

SCISSORS TOOL (under the eraser)
·      Can only cut along path not points
·      Click wherever you want it to cut between and press delete

SEAMLINE
·      Draw a line (with shift if we want it straight)
·      Show options (stroke palette)
·      Tick dashed line
·      Fill in dash and gap values

Add anchor points and maneouvre with select tool. E.g. to create folds in the hem

Command G to group things

These are the shorts and pants I drew:

And here are my front, side and back trade sketches:

I am really proud of these although they took me a good six hours.. I can't wait until I get more efficient because at the moment I have trouble altering lines once I have drawn them, or creating seperate lines etc.

DDS TEMPLATES

In week one I gained my bearings tracing body templates using the pen tool. Some are slightly disjointed but I eventually got the hang of it! Below are a range of front, die and back views, along with a few fashion poses. It took me a long time, but I felt myself improving a lot with time and practice.
